Loud Bluetooth headphones - Lowest setting is still too loud

I found a fix for this for my bluetooth speaker that should work with ANY up-to-date android device, without installing third-party software. (I have a Moto Z3, but this option also exists on Samsung S7/S8 and others)

To do this, you first have to enable developer options by going to your phone info under settings, and tapping the build number repeatedly.

Then, in the developer options, there is a switch that says "Disable absolute volume." The description for this option says, "Disables the Bluetooth absolute volume feature in case of volume issues with remote devices such as unacceptably loud volume or lack of control."

I flipped this switch to the "on" position, restarted, and then was able to adjust the volume on my bluetooth speaker and phone separately, and get much finer volume control than before. Without this, the speaker always seemed too loud or too soft. Hopefully this helps someone, as the problem drove me crazy for days before I found this buried in the settings.
