Hide armor as light armor?

Light armor, made from the skin of dead creatures? Isn't that just called Leather?

The armor bonus is only one less (and a magical ability that reduced the category by one step would be at least +2 anyway) with a higher Max. Dex. and much lower penalty.

The Arms and Equipment Guide also has Leather Scale armor. Light, +3 armor bonus, +6 Max. Dex. and -2 ACP.
